23 October-1 November, GBS Theatre
Matinée: Wednesday 30 October at 2.30pm
Tickets: £8.50, Concessions £7.50, Friends of RADA £6.50

One of the most controversial plays of the 1960s, the first production was banned in toto by the Lord Chamberlain. It received only a single performance before a Sunday night 'club' audience at the Royal Court Theatre. A surreal satire on the influence of Victorian values on modern society, it uses farce and a mixture of historical and modern characters to highlight the cannibalism of the cut-throat society. A challenging, gruesome morality play, it veers from black humour to serious criticism
using historical icons and the intrigues of political revolution to offer a vision of a heaven which is
more like hell.

Not an evening for those easily offended or disturbed by gory images, it is nonetheless an important work in the development of the modern theatre. .

A seminal work in twentieth century drama, this powerful play from the 1950s was written as a scathing indictment of the political witch-hunt carried through by Senator McCarthy in the USA
of the period.

Set in the early years of the Pilgrim Fathers, it charts the actual events that took place in Salem,
New England when religious hysteria took hold on a small community and brought about a
terrible retribution.

At the centre is the farmer, John Proctor, whose relationship with a young girl becomes the
spark that sets alight a chain of events which engulfs not only his marriage, but neighbours
and friends alike.

Mojo
By Jez Butterworth
by arrangement with Nick Hern Books
Directed by Roland Rees

Tuesday 26 November - Thursday 5 December at 7.45pm
Matinée: Saturday 30 November at 2.30pm
Tickets: £8.50, Concessions £7.50, Friends of RADA £6.50

Hailed by the Guardian critic as "the Royal Court's most dazzling main stage debut in years", this play, from one of the new Brit-pack of young talent, won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, the Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright and the George Devine Award for the Best
New Play, when it was first produced in 1996.

Set in Soho clubland in the 1950s, the play draws on the history of the British rock and roll scene
and charts the often hilarious and ingenious exploits of the hustlers and wide-boys of the
London underground.

A brilliant and savagely funny debut by a new writer of real talent.

GBS Theatre
Roberto Zucco
By Bernard-Marie Koltes. Translated by Martin Crimp
Directed by William Galinsky

Wednesday 27 November - Friday 6 December at 7.15pm
Matinée: Wednesday 4 December at 2.30pm
Tickets: £8.50, Concessions £7.50, Friends of RADA £6.50

Acknowledged as the leading contemporary French playwright, Koltès plays have been performed all over Europe by leading companies, but are still relatively unknown in Britain. Like Chekhov, Koltès believed that his plays were essentially comic yet they search the depths of the human condition and cast a penetrating light on contemporary Europe. Based on the real story of an Italian criminal, Roberto Zucco concerns the escape from prison and the unusual adventures of a singular man
at odds with his society.

First produced by Peter Stein in Berlin in 1990 this intriguing play was later performed by the
Royal Shakespeare Company in London and broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in 1996.

This is a rare opportunity to experience a playwright of daring originality and contemporary relevance.

Jerwood Vanbrugh Theatre

"The farces of Feydeau are as implacable and forthright in intention as a child with a peashooter".
So Peter Glenville introduces this classic of the early twentieth century. The themes of French farce deal with the comic horrors that beset ordinary men and women in pursuit of their follies and foibles. The accidents which befall the characters of Feydeau's plays have an hilarious inevitability about them. When Monsieur Boniface arrives at the Hotel Paradiso to meet his lover Marcelle, he is not the only one to have been enticed there.

To avoid extremely compromising confrontations the entire cast spend the night dashing up and
down stairs in a crescendo of hilarious chaos made even worse by a sudden police raid on the unsavoury premises.

A Christmas treat for the eye and the ear.
