RADA SHAKESPEARE CERTIFICATE

TEACHER WORKSHOP

Northern Ireland, Ballyclare Date: Friday 25 April 2008 Booking Form

The Certificate Workshops - A General overview
The Workshops are to help to make Shakespeare the most exciting language to act in and to speak it as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
The techniques offered here for warm-up and workshop are for consideration only and of course in time teachers and students will develop their own strategies in handling verse speaking. We would hope, however, that some of the ideas discussed might provide a firm platform from which they could spring into the classical theatre if they so wish.
The most important point to remember is that everything we need to know about how to act Shakespeare is in the text. We tend too often to explore all around the texts, academic themes or concepts but not see the very acting clues that Shakespeare was providing for his fellow actors within the texts. We must never forget that Shakespeare was an actor who wrote for actors. He knew what an actor was capable of and therefore wrote accordingly. Our job today is to try and recreate those circumstances for the modern actor through a thorough examination of the texts.

SYLLABUS DISCUSSION AND TEACHERS WORKSHOPS

Friday 25 April 2008

Objective
This lively one day Workshop is designed to introduce the RADA Shakespeare Certificate and to provide an opportunity for teachers to clarify the standards and criteria required for success in the Certificate examination.

Who Should Attend
The Discussion and Workshop are designed to offer drama teachers a focused insight into RADA's exciting new development in skills training. Whether you have experience of entering your students for speech and drama exams, or whether you are new to formal training for examination purposes, the sessions will provide you with an invaluable in-depth understanding of the Certificate syllabus and its examination standards and requirements to help your students achieve success.

Drama Society/Theatre Group Directors who may be interested in entering their members for the Certificate are also encouraged to attend.

Schedule For The Day
The day will be split into two sessions. Session A will provide a practical and informative master-class style demonstration of RADA's requirements for your students to successfully pass the Certificate examination. This will include three basic elements of warm ups, sonnet work and monologue work

Session B will involve a short informal discussion of the Syllabus.

The full day Syllabus Discussion and Workshop fee for the academic year 2007/08 is £70.00 per person, which includes morning coffee and a light lunch.

The sessions need to be pre-booked using the Workshop Booking Form. Places are limited, so early booking is recommended. Full joining instructions will be mailed to you 10 days before the Workshop.

The Syllabus Discussion begins at 11am which we hope allows time for those needing to travel and the Workshop ends at 4.30/5.00pm.

A certificate will be sent to all of those who attend the full day workshop
